From the past 18 months or so Ravindra Jadeja has been in form of his life. Whether it’s bowling batting or fielding, he has become the real asset for Indian cricket.
I do feel he isn’t a T-20 bowler but the value Jadeja adds in the team is priceless & you can’t make him out of playing 11 for so long. Even with his terrific all-round performance from the past couple of years he has made Sanjay Manjrekar his fan.
His fielding was never a concern but the way he has levelled up his batting over the years is commendable & probably he is one of the best all-rounders in the world now. But let’s talk about his worst innings in international cricket.
3 Jadeja’s Innings which he might want to forget
1. 2017 Champions Trophy Final
No Indian cricket fan can forget the woes of 2017 Champions Trophy final where India was outplayed by Pakistan and fortune that day.
Hardik Pandya was playing a knock of his life and poor Ravindra Jadeja ran him out. Moreover, his innings didn’t last long after that as he got after scoring 15 of 26 balls.
Pandya and almost all the 150 billion people were furious on Jadeja as he unintentionally killed India’s slim hopes.
He might rate this as the toughest moment in his life on the field.
2. 2016 Canberra ODI
India had already lost the series against Australia despite playing so well.
It was a dead rubber still all eyes were on the Indian team. After conceding 348 India were batting beautifully. Dhawan and Kohli had scored a ton but once they got out the floodgates were on.
India was on the back foot as they were 8 down with Jadeja and Umesh Yadav at the crease. India needed about 40 50 runs @ 8 runs per over. What we witnessed then was quite surprising.
Ravindra Jadeja was giving a strike to Umesh Yadav, rather than going for hits he was expecting Umesh Yadav to hit a few out of the park.
It felt like he was playing for his position in the team & due to that pressure, he did this ridiculous thing which wasn’t expected from him at all.
He remained not out 24 of 27 balls. It would’ve been much better if he could’ve got out playing a few shots rather than this useless inning which cost a match.
3. Asia Cup 2018
Remember the epic match between India and Afghanistan which resulted in a draw. In this match, Jadeja had bowled beautifully and batted well with the tail as well until a brain fade moment on the last ball of the match.
49.4 overs scores were levelled, India was needed just a one-run with 2 deliveries to go & guess what rather than playing sensibly for a single he went for the shot and hit that straight into the hands of the fielder.
As a result, India had to settle with a tie which could have been a victory for them.
So these were the few instances where Ravindra Jadeja’s innings let the team down.
But as every champion player do, they fight back even stronger. Jadeja has done the same and now look where he is.
He is undoubtedly one of the best all-rounders of the modern era along with the likes of Ben Stokes and Jason Holder.
His batting has gone to the whole different level, he can bowl tight spells and in tests, he is one of the front line spinners for India.
He can save runs in the field, he can hit direct hits to get the well-set batsman out. Pure asset, isn’t he?
