3 instances where India paid the price of No-ball

Few instances were luck hadn’t fallen India’s way. In other words, India had gifted a victory to oppositions.

no ball controversy

Whenever we hear the word No-ball, we simply think our fortune wasn’t good but to be very honest that’s not the case. It’s just a reflection of what you practice in nets. Doesn’t matter how good your delivery was if it wasn’t legal you can’t get a batsman Out.

Here are a few instances where India was so close yet so far.

1. Champions Trophy 2017 Final

Who can forget that dismissal of Fakhar Zaman where Bumrah departed him cheaply with his brilliant out-swinger. But guess what, it was a no-ball. As a result, Fakhar ended up a scoring match-winning 100 & eventually, India lost that match even after fighting knock of Pandya.

There can’t be if & buts in cricket or any professional sports but for a moment just imagine if that no ball wouldn’t have happened, India probably would’ve had another ICC trophy in their cabinet. Few Pakistani fans are still celebrating this, I guess.

Stay home, stay safe.

Even though Bumrah has produced so many toe crushers, jaffa after this incident but still people remember him for that no-ball tells us the impact of that. Jaipur Traffic Police also took dig on this by placing a banner of Bumrah crossing a line as a warning sign.

2. World T-20 2016 Semi-final

Sometimes it feels like India were destined to lose this match. First, Indians lost the toss which already put them on the backfoot.

After posting a decent total on the board, India took the wicket of a Gayle cheaply even Lendl Simmons almost but the same woes continued, Ashwin bowled a no-ball. Again after few overs, Simmons got dismissed but this time Pandya was the culprit of bowling a no-ball. The undue task of damage was done by Russell power & dew in Wankhede.

Felt like, Lendl Simmons who was not even part of the squad initially, came just before the semi-final only to beat India. Interesting thing here is, he again got injured just before the final.

Just think for a moment, a guy who wasn’t even part of the team came from nowhere, destroyed an opponent by utilizing 2 lives which he got & then without playing finals, got injured again. What kind of story you were writing God?

3. World T-20 2012

Many of you might not remember the match between India & South-Africa, where India not only had to defend a total but had to restrict South-Africa 32 runs before a target.

India posted a challenging total of 152 after an early storm. After the collapse of the South African top order, Faf took the charge. But again after the Faf’s dismissal, India got a little sniff.

Ashwin came into a picture when he dismissed Robin Peterson on 2 consecutive deliveries (no-ball & a free hit). India would’ve had a real chance if Ash wouldn’t have bowled a no-ball. Eventually, India won that match by 1 run but it was of no use. As their chances of reaching into a semi-final were already shattered.

Conclusion

Moral of the story, India’s track record with no-balls is frightening. Hope bowlers will address this issue, work hard in the nets & fight back stronger than ever.
